Gas Network Upgrade – Canterbury Road Herne
We’re preparing to carry out essential gas network upgrades in the Canterbury Road area of Herne.
This work will ensure a continued safe and reliable supply of gas is delivered to nearby homes and
businesses.
We’ll be replacing our old metal pipes along Canterbury Road and Herne Street. This is part of our 30-
year programme of work to replace our old mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new,
reliable plastic pipe.
Our Contractor, I&G Contracting, who are carrying out this work on our behalf, will start work in
Canterbury Road in the week beginning 12 February. We estimate this work will take between six
and seven weeks to complete.
Canterbury Road – we will be working from the junction with Herne Street to the junction with
Bullockstone Road
Herne Street – we will be working from the junction with Park Place to the junction with Canterbury
Road
To keep everyone safe we will be using temporary traffic signals around our work sites.
We recognise this is a traffic sensitive location so our engineers will be working extended hours, and
manually controlling the traffic lights to reduce disruption as much as possible.
We will also be placing large video matrix signs on the road in advance of work starting, to inform
drivers to be able to adjust their journey timings accordingly.
All our work is planned in close consultation with Kent Council and key Stakeholders.
We understand roadworks can be frustrating. However, the new plastic pipe has a life span of 80
years. This means once our work is done, Herne residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the
benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.
