A would-be robber has been jailed after he was quickly identified as the man who tried to snatch cash from a woman in Canterbury.
Andrew Mullen was given a four year sentence at the city’s Crown Court on Thursday 13 February 2025 for attempted robbery and possession of knife.
The sentence followed an investigation into an attempted robbery in Canterbury High Street, which took place on Saturday 2 November 2024.
Attempted robbery
That morning, the victim had been taking money from an ATM when she became aware of a man on a bicycle behind her.
As she went to put the cash in her pocket, the man, who police later identified as Mullen, grabbed her hand.
The victim tried to crouch down to keep the money in her grasp before a struggle ensured in which Mullen elbowed the woman and then fell from his bike. He rode off, while the victim went into the bank and the police were called.
