The Parish’s public houses — The Smugglers, The Huntsman and Horn, The Curious Cat, and The Butchers Arms — are currently registered as Assets of Community Value with Canterbury City Council.
This designation helps protect these important community facilities by giving the Parish Council the opportunity to bid to purchase them on behalf of the community should they ever be put up for sale.
These registrations are now approaching their five-year renewal date, and we need local support to help secure their protection for another five years.
Our local pubs are much more than places to eat and drink. They provide valuable social spaces where people can meet, build friendships, reduce isolation, celebrate local events, support community groups, and strengthen the sense of community within the Parish. They are an important part of our local heritage.
Nomination forms for The Smugglers, The Huntsman and Horn, The Curious Cat, and The Butchers Arms are available to sign at the Herne Centre. By adding your signature, you can help safeguard these much-loved community assets for future generations.
