Chimney fire in Whitstable

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to a house in Shepherds Walk, Whitstable, after a log burner fire spread to debris in the chimney flue.

Three fire engines attended, and crews used a fog spike and hose reel to extinguish the fire.

No injuries were reported.

Following the incident, firefighters are reminding residents to ensure their chimneys and flues have been swept before lighting any open fire or log burner, and to have them maintained throughout the year to ensure there’s no build-up of debris, such as birds’ nests.
