Kent Police was called to assist firefighters tackling a blaze at a property in Guildhall Street at around 8.45pm that evening.

Roads in the local area were closed and some residents of nearby properties were evacuated while the fire was extinguished.

On Friday 6 December, officers arrested a 16 year old boy from Canterbury on suspicion of arson. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Enquiries continue

While enquiries continue, a 12 year old girl arrested on Wednesday 4 December, and a 15 year old boy arrested on Tuesday 3 December, on suspicion of arson, have also been bailed.

A 15 year old boy from Ashford, arrested on suspicion of arson on Wednesday 4 December, was released without charge.
