Following our successful grant from the National Lottery of £15,000 from their community fund, we wanted to update you on the progress of the MUGA and lighting.
The new lights have been ordered and are due to be installed at the end of the week.
Our contractor will then start works to the MUGA at the beginning of June. The MUGA is having new fencing, gates, new backboards and hoops for the basketball, surface treatment and repaint of sports lines. Due to changes in health and safety legislation our current MUGA and shelter have to be updated.
The current MUGA is nearly double its expected lifespan, and has lasted very well. Doing a revamp now is a lot more cost effective than a total rebuild in a few years time if we do nothing. There is big gaps in the fencing as well as surface degeneration.
Although the shelter offers some cover during rainy matches, unfortunately it is beyond repair. The shelter is often climbed on by children and is not always used for the correct purpose. We will be replacing it with a bench which will be used more frequently by all.
Other parks in our area do not offer shelters, and this is probably for similar reasons. We have had issues of regular graffiti, antisocial behaviour and damage to the shelter and it is not cost effective to replace it.
