To allow new development works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order to temporarily prohibit through traffic, in phases, on part of A291 Canterbury Road, Herne & A299 Thanet Way (Westbound Off Slip), Herne and Broomfield.
Closures are planned from 11th November 2024, with estimated completion by 16th November 2024, between the hours of 20:00 and 05:00, or where stated
on valid permits (GE27895902792-02 & GE27846650400-02 – Breheny Civil
Engineering). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate
signage displayed on site and the works will be displayed on One.Network
Night 1 – A291 Canterbury Road, Herne will be closed, southbound only, between
both roundabouts.
The alternative route for through traffic southbound is via A291 Canterbury
Road, A299 Thanet Way Eastbound On Slip, A299 Thanet Way, Margate Road
Interchange, Margate Road, A299 Thanet Way and A299 Thanet Way Westbound
Off Slip.
Night 2 – A299 Thanet Way will be closed at the Westbound Off Slip.
The alternative route for through traffic westbound is via A299 Thanet Way,
A290 Clapham Hill, A2990 Thanet Way, Eastbound Slip Onto A299 Thanet Way,
A299 Thanet Way and A291 Canterbury Road.
There will also be a local diversion in place for Mill Lane & Margate Road.
Night 5 – A291 Canterbury Road will be closed at the Canterbury Road, Herne
southern roundabout. The roundabout will be closed in its entirety.
The alternative route for through traffic entering from Canterbury/ Herne Bay is
via A2990 Thanet Way, A290 Clapham Hill, Pean Hill, Honey Hill, Blean Common,
Tile Kiln Hill, Whitstable Road, St Thomas Hill, Whitstable Road, London Road,
A2050 Rheims Way, A28 Pin Hill, Rhodaus Town, Upper Bridge Street, Broad
Street, Military Road, Tourtel Road, Sturry Road, Mill Road, A291 Sturry Hill,
Herne Bay Road, Calcott Hill, Canterbury Road, Herne Street, Canterbury Road
and vice versa.
Night 5 – A299 Thanet Way will be closed at the Westbound Off Slip.
