Canterbury City Council undertook a consultation into car parking charges throughout the district.
Item 5 that was consulted on, was about changing School Lane car park from a Band 3 to a Band 5 car park. This would mean instead of £1.90 an hour, users would pay £1.60 a day. With a charging period 10am – 4pm. £3.20 a day at weekends.
168 responded to this part of the consultation. 160 (95.2%) supported the changes, with 8 (4.8%) objections.
Comments included supporting the reduced rates, especially to support local business and for the community and the residence use. People also commented that more parking is needed, the rate at the weekend should also be reduced, should be a 30 minute free stay.
This will now be discussed at Canterbury City Council meeting next week and we hope, from the high percentage of support shown, that we will have a positive outcome. We will update everyone as soon as we know.
