Please note, an additional closure is required for works on North Holmes Road from 18th September 2023, with estimated completion by 22nd September 2023.
Temporary Road Closure & Temporary One-Way Suspension – North Holmes Road, Burgate, Monastery Street & A257 Longport, Canterbury – 31st July 2023 (Canterbury District)
It will be necessary to close part of North Holmes Road, Burgate, Monastery Street & A257 Longport, Canterbury from 31st July 2023, with estimated completion by 8th October 2023.
WORKS SCHEDULE
North Holmes Road, Canterbury
North Holmes Road will be closed from 31st July 2023, with estimated completion by 18th August 2023.
The road will be closed between Longport and St Martin’s Church.
The alternative route is via North Holmes Road, Havelock Street, Monastery Street and A257 Longport.
The one-way order on North Holmes Road will be temporarily suspended to allow for access.
Burgate, Canterbury
Burgate will be closed from 5th September 2023, with estimated completion by 9th September 2023.
The Road will be closed from the junction with Upper Bridge Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for vehicles under 7.5t is via Lower Bridge Street, Broad Street, Military Road, Lower Bridge Street, Upper Bridge Street, Watling Street, St George’s Lane, St George’s Street, Canterbury Lane, Burgate, Sun Street, Palace Street, Borough, Northgate, A28 Tourtel Road, Military Road, Broad Street and Lower Bridge Street.
The alternative route for vehicles over 7.5t is via Lower Bridge Street, Broad Street, Military Road, Lower Bridge Street, Upper Bridge Street, Watling Street, St George’s Lane, St George’s Street and Canterbury Lane, then exit via Canterbury Lane and St George’s Street.
It will be necessary to suspend the one-way traffic order on Burgate between Burgate Lane and Canterbury Lane to allow for two-way traffic for ingress and egress.
All traffic entering/exiting Iron Bar Lane will be managed with temporary traffic lights.
Canterbury Lane, Canterbury
It will be necessary to suspend the one-way traffic order to allow two-way traffic for ingress and egress.
It will be necessary to suspend all taxi bays on the north side of Canterbury Lane for the duration of the works.
St George’s Lane, Canterbury
It will be necessary to suspend the order restricting all vehicles except buses and taxis to allow for all traffic to enter Canterbury Lane and Burgate.
Monastery Street, Canterbury
Monastery Street will be closed from 18th September 2023, with estimated completion by 29th September 2023.
The road will be closed between Church Street (St Pauls), to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route is via A257 Longport, A257 Lower Chantry Lane, A257 St George’s Place, A28 Lower Bridge Street and Lady Wootton’s Green.
A257 Longport, Canterbury
A257 Longport will be closed from 18th September 2023, with estimated completion by 8th October 2023, between the hours of 20.00 and 06.00.
The road will be closed between Lower Chantry Lane and North Holmes Road, to the extend indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route is via A257 Lower Chantry Lane, A2050 New Dover Road, Dover Road, Dover Road Slip East On, A2 Dover Road, Barham Slip Eastbound Off, B2046 Box Iron Road, Adisham Road, High Street, A257 Canterbury Road, Wingham Road, High Street, The Hill, Canterbury Road, Littlebourne Road, St Martin’s Hill and vice versa.
The restrictions are required for the safety of the public and workforce while cycle route works are undertaken by Kent County Council.
