At Kent Fire and Rescue Service, we offer free, bookable home fire safety visits for residents in Kent and Medway.
Free home fire safety visits are available to anyone who:
is aged 70 or over
is living with dementia
has a long term health condition
has young children or is pregnant
is a smoker
We want to help keep people safe and reduce the risk of accidental fires in the home. You can book an appointment at a time that suits you, and one of our officers will visit the home to check smoke alarms, install new ones if needed, identify any fire hazards and provide personalised fire safety advice.

An example of a recent home fire safety visit
John and his wife Maureen didn’t expect a knock on the door to result in new smoke alarms being fitted at their Maidstone home, but that’s exactly what happened when firefighters stopped by.
Crews were in the area to offer free home fire safety visits when they called at the retired couple’s house.
John, 80, said: “The firefighters were clearly wearing uniform, showed us their IDs and a fire engine was parked along the road, so it was obvious they were not cold callers.
“They checked our smoke alarms and as they were coming up to the 10-year expiry date, they replaced them and relocated one to a better position in the house.”
The firefighters also noticed John’s hearing aids and explained if he couldn’t hear a sounding smoke alarm, there’s alternative vibrating options they could install.
John added: “It’s a fantastic service and we both felt very reassured after the visit.”
