Fraud Alert from Kent Police.
I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Fraud (for example, bogus callers, courier fraud, cyber crime), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.
I would like to raise awareness in response to a handful of incidents noted across the Canterbury district this week. There has been a small number of fraud or attempted fraud incidents, this involves persons impersonating Police in an attempt to defraud others. Typically when a few of these calls spring up, more tend to follow as they seem to target postcode areas.
So a reminder to all to remain vigilant against fraudsters and do not be pressured or rushed into making decisions that could cause financial loss.
This type of fraud usually starts with some claim about an arrest and cloned bank cards in your name (yes they can get these details), this can sometimes be very convincing. Be aware that Police will not ask you to withdraw or send cash, or gift vouchers, nor will they ask you to move money to any account that does not belong to you.
If you have any concerns contact your bank using the number found on the back of your bank cards or from statements etc. Alternatively you could reach out to Kent Police via our website on our live chat system or 101, preferably using a different phone, fraudsters have been known to keep the line open on calls which can often support the guise of legitimacy of their call.
At the least consider seeking a second opinion from a friend or family member.
