Update – Works Update:

Temporary Road Closure – Bullockstone Road Improvement Scheme – From 1st August 2022 For Up To 1 Year (Canterbury District)

Please be advised of the following major night time construction and carriageway surfacing:-

A291 Canterbury Road, Herne Common will be closed between 20.00 hours and 05.00 hours from 9 May 2023 until 23 May 2023.

It will be necessary to close various roads in Herne Bay.

This Order takes effect on or after 10th January 2022 for a period of up to 18 months or until works have been completed. Planned dates will be published in advanced of the works on One.Network and indicated by signage displayed on site 14 days before they start.

The following restrictions will be enforced, when they are indicated by signs and barriers on site.

Bullockstone Road, Herne Bay

A temporary mandatory 30mph speed limit will be imposed on Bullockstone Road between the junctions with the A291 Canterbury Road and Owls Hatch Road (south of Thanet Way).

Phased closures on Bullockstone Road will be required at various locations between the junctions with the A291 Canterbury Road and Owls Hatch Road (south of Thanet Way), to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via A291 Canterbury Road, Herne Street, Canterbury Road, A2990 (Old) Thanet Way, Greenhill Road, Bullockstone Road and vice versa.

The existing 7.5 tonne weight restriction on Bullockstone Road will be temporarily suspended between the junctions with Lower Herne Road and Greenhill Road, to allow access for construction vehicles to the site compound.

A291 Canterbury Road, Herne Common

A temporary mandatory 30mph speed limit will be imposed on Canterbury Road, Herne Common between the junctions with Busheyfields Road and Anemone Way.

Phased closures on A291 Canterbury Road will be required between the junctions with Busheyfields Road and Anemone Way, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via A291 Canterbury Road, Herne Street, Canterbury Road, A299 Thanet Way, St Nicholas Roundabout, A28 Canterbury Road, Island Road, Staines Hill, A291 Sturry Hill, Herne Bay Road, Fox Hill, Calcott Hill, Canterbury Road and vice versa.

Lower Herne Road, Herne

Lower Herne Road will be closed at its junction with Bullockstone Road for a distance for approximately 100 metres in an easterly direction, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site. This is to allow for the safe construction of a temporary access from the compound and the compound area itself and for carriageway resurfacing works.

It may also be necessary to implement phased closures on Lower Herne Road from the eastern boundary of the site compound up to Strode Farm Cottages, to allow safe access/egress to the site compound.

The alternative route for both closures is via Lower Herne Road, A291 Canterbury Road, A2990 (Old) Thanet Way, Greenhill Road, Bullockstone Road and vice versa.

It may also be necessary to impose a one-way order on part of Lower Herne Road, between the entrance of the site compound near Bullockstone Road and Ash Close, with traffic travelling east bound only.

The alternative route for this restriction is via Lower Herne Road, A291 Canterbury Road, A2990 (Old) Thanet Way, Greenhill Road and Bullockstone Road.

The existing 7.5 tonne weight restriction on Lower Herne Road will be temporarily suspended, between the junctions with Bullockstone Road and Strode Farm Cottages, to allow access for construction vehicles to the site compound.

Greenhill Road, Herne Bay

The existing 7.5 tonne weight restriction on Greenhill Road will be temporarily suspended, between the junctions with Bullockstone Road and the A2990 Thanet Way/Greenhill roundabout, to allow access for construction vehicles to the site compound.

Waiting and loading will be prohibited at all times on the northern side of Greenhill Road, between property numbers 12 and 34 Greenhill Road, to the extent clearly indicated on site by temporary double yellow lines.

Braggs Lane, Herne Bay

Braggs Lane will be closed at its junction with Canterbury Road for a distance for approximately 100 metres in a south-westerly direction, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

There is no alternative route available for this closure. However, access/egress will be maintained at all times, when it is safe to do so.

The restrictions are required for the safety of the public and workforce while road improvement works are undertaken by Kent County Council.
